Three Signs of A Bad Starter

Nothing is quite as frustrating as getting in your car only to discover that it won’t start. If you left your headlights on all night, the solution is as simple as jumping your battery, but if you’ve cared for your Acura, made sure your battery wasn’t drained, and gotten regular maintenance on your engine, it could be a faulty starter. Here are three signs that it may be time to replace your starter

Sign #1: Nothing happens when you turn your key.

If you slide into the driver’s seat, turn the key in the ignition, and are greeted by silence, it’s likely time to replace your starter. However, always check your battery first, as a severely depleted battery can show the same symptoms as a broken starter.

Sign #2: There’s a grinding noise when you try to start your car.

If you hear a loud grinding noise when you turn your key, it could be one of two things. Either the gears attached to your starter are worn down, or the motor inside your starter is dead. In either case, you’ll want to replace the starter.

Sign #3: You see smoke when you start your car.

Any time you see smoke coming from under the hood, it’s time to take your car to the mechanic. However, if your starter overheats, it can lead to a smoky mess. While a smoking engine can be caused by a number of issues, a blown starter is common and should be replaced as soon as possible.
